Jimmy is a busboy at a local diner minding his own business and trying to stay on the snd narrow. Life was not easy, but it wasn’t complicated until Mark walked in. Then Jimmy’s life takes on multiple layers of complications. Can he convince Mark that the JD he used to know is now the serious, steady, and honest Jimmy?

Rick Reed, the author, weaves a story around romance, recovery, and self-discovery. The characters are well-developed and revealing of strong emotions – love, self-doubt, fear, loneliness, and more. This is reflected in the details and vivid imagery. Clearly written and provides a small peek into the world and struggles an addict faces daily. The human element is multifaceted and rich. The story is believable and made more authentic through the dialog although there were times when the dialog felt forced.

The narrator, David Allen Vargo, once again delivers a strong performance providing unique voices for each character that is reflective of their personality and situations. At times his voices reach a variety of pitches adding a rich authenticity to the storyline and dialogue. He speaks smoothly and with clarity. I thoroughly enjoy listening to David Vargo perform as he brings each character to life.

This is a story of love, loneliness, forgiveness, and recovery. Although it is coarse at times, it is appropriate and well done.
