The Faoii have protected Clearwall for generations. With militaristic order and stalwart discipline, these women have reigned in prosperity. But when her monastery is attacked and her sisters slaughtered, only young Kaiya-faoii is left alive.
Forced to cope without the long-standing traditions of her Order, Kaiya travels the country on a mission to avenge her sisters and preserve what is left of her heritage. The search brings her not only to dark discoveries and ancient family secrets, but to something she never wanted or dreamed of: a brother she never knew she had.
Thrust into a war at the heart of a broken empire, the siblings must evaluate the true meanings of enemy, betrayal, and freedom - and the gray areas surrounding each. Kaiya slowly learns the true state of the world outside her monastery's walls, the dangers of the poisonous army that is slowly covering the land, and of her own innate abilities gifted by the Goddess.
Being trained as a Faoii warrior and living in a monastery, Kaiya continues the tradition of protecting Clearwall. The Faoii have fallen complacent not recognizing or seeing the danger until it strikes all down. Left for dead, Kaiya-Faoii sets out to avenge her sisters and the Goddess. Gathering the last of the Faoii from the farthest lands, she comes back to challenge and reclaim her heritage.
This audiobook is, an action-packed emotionally moving story! The strong female characters provide a richness that moves the story along and gives it more depth. Tahani Nelson, the author, weaves a magical story that will pull at one’s heartstrings and make the listener gasp as deep dark secrets are revealed.
Nelson builds the story slowly and with rich vivid descriptors that bring the story and characters to life. She develops her characters fully and with an inner strength that is both endearing and emotionally spellbinding.
The narrator, Sara Morsey performs the book with enthusiasm and clarity. She becomes Kaiya-Faoii and her sisters with a subtle passion. Her speech is smooth and concise. I enjoyed her performance and will look for other stories narrated by her.
This is a rare book that provides many plot twists that are excellently executed and a richness that captivates the listener. I highly recommend this audiobook.
