Cara Stone is a broken woman: penniless, homeless, and hopeless. When given the chance to appear on television, she jumps at the opportunity to win a minimum of $5,000 for her family.
The state-run, crowdfunded series, Revolver, has been established by the nation's moneyed elite to combat the increasing plight of class warfare.
There's never been a Revolver contestant quite like Cara before. The corporate states of America are hungry for blood, and she promises to deliver.

Revolver is one of those stories that, once I got over the initial shock of the subject matter and the sheer vulgarity of the content. I immediately had to listen to it a second time. Then I realized that it really isn’t that shocking or vulgar, considering the real world that we live in today. Pretty sure the only reason I was shocked at all was because of the fairy tale that I tell myself, everyday, that I live in.
Cara Jones is the latest participant in a social game show of sorts, where she can bring thousands of dollars, back to her family in need. Sure. Its general premise isn’t necessarily original. However, it takes a deft hand to make it believable. This is where Michael Patrick Hicks excels. Drawing the reader in, in less time than most, coercing me to care about Cara. Convincing me that his idea is possible. With an ending that allows me to choose the final outcome.
Because of the subject matter I did find this very difficult to review. Especially with all the political turmoil, particularly the attitudes against women, that the world is being exposed to right now. I think this makes Revolver all the more terrifyingly plausible.
If you want to be shocked at the same time as saying “Oh Crap” this well written short is for you. It just might make you think about what is so different, if anything, from our society today and the one portrayed by Hicks. I will be looking for more from him.
While Patricia Santomasso’s work is new to me, she is not new to audiobook narration. And it shows. I truly enjoyed that way she brought the characters to life. I will be on the lookout for longer productions so I can more accurately determine my true feelings for her.
