The beloved #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Sookie Stackhouse series, the inspiration for HBO’s True Blood, and the Midnight Crossroad trilogy adapted for NBC’s Midnight, Texas, has written a taut new thriller—the first in the Gunnie Rose series—centered on a young gunslinging mercenary, Lizbeth Rose.
Set in a fractured United States, in the southwestern country now known as Texoma. A world where magic is acknowledged but mistrusted, especially by a young gunslinger named Lizbeth Rose. Battered by a run across the border to Mexico Lizbeth Rose takes a job offer from a pair of Russian wizards to be their local guide and gunnie. For the wizards, Gunnie Rose has already acquired a fearsome reputation and they’re at a desperate crossroad, even if they won’t admit it. They’re searching through the small border towns near Mexico, trying to locate a low-level magic practitioner, Oleg Karkarov. The wizards believe Oleg is a direct descendant of Grigori Rasputin, and that Oleg’s blood can save the young tsar’s life.
As the trio journey through an altered America, shattered into several countries by the assassination of Franklin Roosevelt and the Great Depression, they’re set on by enemies. It’s clear that a powerful force does not want them to succeed in their mission. Lizbeth Rose is a gunnie who has never failed a client, but her oath will test all of her skills and resolve to get them all out alive.
“Immersive, involving, suspenseful, and intriguing, with a main character you’ll love.” —Lee Child, #1 internationally bestselling author of the Jack Reacher novels
“When a master of her craft offers to tell you a story, let her. The results are dazzling.” —Seanan McGuire, New York Times bestselling author of the Alex, Hugo, Nebula, and Locus Award-winning Wayward Children series.

Gunnie Rose 1: An Easy Death by Charlaine Harris is a unique new story from the author. Set in an alternate timeline in a dystopian America. The United States was fractured and split into several countries by the assassination of Franklin Roosevelt and the Great Depression. The Holy Russian Empire controls the west coast where the Romanovs managed to flee. The New England States returned to British control. The Southern States formed their own country again and that leaves the states bordering Texas now called Texoma where the story takes place after Mexico has pushed north to reclaim land.
In Texoma, Lizbeth Rose lives the life of a Gunnie. The job entails running security on runs from Texoma across the border to Mexico. Gunnie Rose has a hard-earned reputation for never-failing her clients and getting the job done. This job will take all her skill. She has been hired by two Russian wizards to be their local guide and gunnie. They are searching the borderlands for two low-level wizards named Oleg and Alexie Karkarov direct descendants of Grigori Rasputin, with blood that can save the young tsar’s life back in the Holy Russian Empire.
The author has created a new and very different Dystopian World. For this reviewer, the GraphicAudio Production combined with the overall interesting setting and world building in this first story really held my attention. I am a huge fanboy of GraphicAudio Productions. From the casting, sound design, and production of high-quality audio performance is amazing to behold. The music accompaniment though out this entire audio performance was just spot on perfect. It held the listener’s attention and held set the mood perfectly.
The narration on this audio performance was outstanding. GraphicAudio truly does deliver a movie in your mind. If you’re a person who is a fan of this style of audiobooks you will start to recognize some of the vocal talents at GraphicAudio. These are some very talented people. The primary cast is Colleen Delany as Lizbeth Rose, Robbie Gay as Eli and Carolyn Kashner as Paulina. Ms. Delany’s performance as Gunnie Rose was truly outstanding. The character was complex and troubled. Ms. Delany was able to convey the emotions and give the character a larger than life feeling that would stand alongside any of the great western characters of the silver screen. The production quality of this audiobook is also the highest quality. I heard no problems during the entire performance. There were not any detectable flaws that I was able to hear during the entire performance such as loops, breaks, or buzzing. The production was crisp and clear. GraphicAudio delivered an excellent audiobook production.
