"There is a voice in my head, slithering through my mind like a serpent. It whispers dark things. Tells me to feed." (Osiris, Egyptian lord of the underworld.)
Were the Egyptian gods fanciful imaginings of primitive people or something more? Some believe they once walked the Earth as mortals, that they warred and loved just as any of their worshippers.
This is their story--the tale of how Isis gained the power of shaping. How mighty Osiris died and lived again. How they discovered the fabled First Ark, a structure older than man. It is the tale of us all, the story that shaped our race from cave dwellers into the people we are today.
Are these fanciful tales? Or long-lost truth wrapped in myth? Only time knows.
"It's like Clan of the Cave Bear ran right into The Walking Dead." (The author's totally biased friend.)

I like the recreation of Egyptian mythology for the origins of Osiris, Isis and the rest and the discovery of the first Ark was pretty cool. I know you would normally read a prequel first, I would actually recommend reading No Such Things as Werewolves first so that you don’t have spoilers and enjoy finding out what happens as it is happening (that could just be me though….I like it when I can’t figure out a book right away). After listening to this I was glad that I did not read/listen before I started the first book. The frustrating part of this is that it is a very small snapshot of the beginning, I wish it were a bit longer and maybe covered some details about what happened to cause the creation of the werewolves…..but I digress. I have actually started the third book, Vampires Don’t Sparkle so maybe some of those questions will be answered…..hopefully they will be answered.
This was a fun and interesting listen and as usual the narrator, Ryan Kennard Burke, did a fabulous job, the voices he gives the characters are very distinct and I had no problem knowing which character was speaking and I am glad that we have the same narrator through the series.
So all in all, a fun but short listen that gives you a tiny glimpse of where and how it all started.
