Intriguing Grim Reaper Folk Tale!

Morena carries the weight of the world on her shoulders as she tries to free her brother and sister from the death grip of their mother, Queen Melinda. To do so, Morena agrees to don the mask of death and perform the actions of the Grim Reaper walking side by side with the flesh-eating zombie cullen at the guidance of Queen Melinda. Morena’s freedom will come at a great cost to all who know her.

The author, Rhiannon Hargadon, creatively crafts a captivating narrative of death through the retelling of the Grim Reaper, seamlessly blending it mythology of gods and the Three Fates. The narrative is deliberately slow in developing the characters and storyline. The unexpected plot twists to keep the listener fully engaged. A masterful melding of mythology with zombies was creative and done seamlessly. The dialogue and emotional connections with the characters were rich and authentic deepening the depth of the narrative. This book does touch on some dark themes that could be triggers for some, but they are handled smoothly and unobtrusively.

The narrator, Jessie Elwyn, delivers a strong performance, giving each character a distinct voice and intonation to enhance the action and narrative. Her delivery was smooth, flawless, and consistent. She brought each character to life with her deliberate and keen talent. This is the time I have heard Jessie Elwyn perform and found her highly talented and captivating.

This is a tantalizing listen that immerses the listener completely. I found the narrative to feel authentic and engaging because of the author's attention to detail and deliberateness.
