Mind Bending and Surreal!

We follow the life of Julie Stipes and her experiences using the street drug Drakein-5. Instead of shooting it up, she takes it as eye drops. Her experiences and adventures during her “trips” are intense, severely twisted, and at times, confusing.

The author, Michael Bailey, crafts a complex story around Drakein-5 and the effects and consequences of using it. At times, I almost felt as if I were present in the story and had a hard time distinguishing events. Bailey was very graphic in his details leaving no doubts. The plot twists were well-executed and intense. The characters were well-developed yet leaving enough uncertainty to be intriguing.

The narrator, Sarah Grace, was excellent! She spoke clearly and evenly using her delivery to communicate the emotions and actions of the narrative. Her deliberate pausing and cadence were captivating and made the effects of the drug realistic. I have not had the pleasure of hearing her perform before but I look forward to hearing more from her.

The narrative was complete with graphic details of situations that leave the listener a bit wide-eyed and tense! This is an intense book for folks who enjoy mind-bending experiences.
