An Immersive Military Thriller!

This is a military space thriller that captures the imagination in a variety of ways. Intricate battles, survival, conspiracies, attempted murder, and cover-ups. Captain Pike finds himself being moved like a pawn. He is faced with making hard decisions that could result in his court-martial at the very least. However, Pike is the one who follows the rule book both in life and on duty, does what is right, and fights the good fight.

The author, John Spearman has crafted a storyline meant to capture the attention of his audience and keep it. I enjoyed the different characters and how he took his time to create them and build a connection between the characters and his listeners. He portrayed the relationships built between comrades in arms accurately and strategically. We watch each character grow into a strong person with strong and appropriate character traits. He is deliberate and masterful in telling his story. I came to enjoy Lt. Commander Pike and his strategic thinking and interactions with the crew in “teaching moments.” Attention to detail is extensive yet not overwhelming.

The narrator, Ruel T. Fulford is not someone I have heard before. However, his narration/performance was perfect for this book. I enjoyed his different voices that were unique to the characters and were consistent. He kept the story moving forward and adding to an already exciting and well-done story.

This is a rare book that not only captures attention but holds it hostage until the last word is spoken. I felt totally and completely immersed in the book because of the excellent foundation of the story and characters that John Spearman completed. As book 1 in a series, I cannot wait to hear the next in the series.

There were no issues with the quality or production of this audiobook. The sound was clear and well done.
