Hell Divers VII: Warriors
By: Nicholas Sansbury Smith
Diving to Save Humanity One More Time!
The threats against humanity and Vanguard Islands are real and even more deadly than ever. King Xavier Rodriguez “X” continues to ally with the Cazadores and together they meet the machines and skinwalkers being led by Horn and his mother head-on! Nothing comes without blood and this battle is no different. Lives are lost and new ones are discovered while new generations are being born!
This is the 7th book in the Hell Divers Series and I have to say it is by far the best of all of them. Nicholas Sansbury Smith has consistently maintained the character development of each character to the point that the characters are truly realistic. Each character has their flaws openly displayed making them more realistic than ever. X has grown with each book into the surly yet gentle man who comes across as dealing with his problems through drink initially but then who hasn’t done that? Within a few pages, X realizes he needs to be strong and the leader he was always meant to be – even with a missing limb he redeems himself. Ada Winslow made some horrible choices that led to her being exiled but still learning a valuable lesson and able to redeem herself to a degree. There are others who out of love for their family and friends make the ultimate sacrifice. The feeling of revenge and the pain that goes with it is vividly detailed and realistic.
This book has pain, raw tangible pain and the way in which the characters deal with the pain is so … human and realistic. This book brings about the final battle between humanity and the teaming up of Skinwalkers and Machines. The ending will leave you emotionally drained in so many ways.
The storyline is well done and flows smoothly. This book is action-packed and definitely the-edge-of-your-seat, nail-biting thriller. There are so many parts to this book that are realistic and perhaps a prophetic prediction of our future as humanity.
Nicholas Sansbury Smith is a commanding author with storytelling skills that leave his fans speechless and wanting more. Story tellers such as Smith are rare. He yields words like a sword blazing a path through our imagination and hearts.
R.C. Bray, the narrator, as usual, is excellent. He has helped grow each character and move the plot forward as well through his talents as a voice actor. I cannot imagine any other narrator working magic into the story on the same or better level as Bray. His voice is passionate yet soothing as well.
This is a series worth reading and listening to time and again.
