1980’s Sleuth!
Brett is a dynamic sleuth with ties in the right and wrong places. Also, he’s a very macho man. He is charismatic (sort of), definitely egotistical, smart mouth who knows he’s good-looking and is more than willing to share it with the world in a loud obnoxious New Jersey-like voice. Toss in that he is a good PI with an observation level of +10 and you have a world-class sleuth. Then again, he does tend to get himself into trouble. Right now, he’s trying to figure out how a dead woman who died at 7:30 PM is seen out dancing well after her death time. Now a man like Brett makes enemies and he has a few out to get him …
David D’Aguanno, the author, has a strong writing style and has done an excellent job at creating the character of Brett. This is the first book in this series I have listened to and while I found it interesting, I had to laugh … D’Aguanno gave Brett a solid sense of humor and wit – not something one would expect out of this type of guy when you first hear him. The story is well written, and character development is good. Frankly, while I remember all the characters, Brett just stands out well above all the other characters. He is a character you either love, or you hate.
The narrator, Travis Henry Carter, wears Brett like a second skin. His voice of Brett is perfect! He gives a strong performance that leaves the listener grounded in the world of Brett. His cadence was good, there were a couple of times when he rushed a bit, but it did not affect the story.
There were no issues with the production or quality of this audiobook.
