Unique Take on The Fountain of Youth!

This is a story about Jack and Blue, an engaged couple, who joined the military after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Blue was a nurse and Jack was a member of the Marines. Unfortunately, they are attacked while on a ship being transported to their next stop. Along with four others who survived the massive attack and deadly sinking of their ship, they wind up on an island with Islanders, surviving Japanese soldiers, and another mysterious presence. The interaction between the now residents of the island is both exciting and danger-filled.

The author, Nathaniel Warner is a masterful storyteller crafting a unique story around WWII and the Fountain of Youth. His descriptions were rich in detail and character building was as well. This action-packed adventure was intriguing in many ways. I didn’t want to shut off the book until I reached the end. Warner crafts some mind-blowing plot twists that he manages to execute smoothly.

There were two narrators, Scott Ellis and Kay Insley. I enjoyed Scott Ellis’s performance as he moved the story forward with appropriate inflections and a clear voice. Kay Insley did not have as big a role and I found her short exchanges out of place; I think her voice seemed larger than Ellis’ at times. When she had several lines to speak and longer interactions, her performance felt right. Overall, I have heard both before and I have enjoyed them both.

This is a story for anyone who enjoys WWII, battles, and survival books mixed with some other pieces which I will not reveal here to keep from spoiling the book. This is one of those “don’t miss” books. Plus the bonus of a unique thought on the Fountain of Youth!

There were no issues with the quality or production of this audiobook. The sound was clear and well done.
