Entertaining and Thought-Provoking!

A nine-year-old Kailani crashes on the Island Blessed Lands where she encounters Jason and Helena. Jason and Helena were childhood friends and now reunited, have become reconnected. The ruling authority of the Blessed Lands dictates a severe and ruthless belief that fanatics and religion have no place there. The consequences for anyone arriving on the island uninvited are severe and limited. Kailani is unique, given her age and her words, no one knows what to do with her or what threat she presents. Jason and Helena have decided they will do whatever they must to protect young Kailani. They will face many obstacles and encounter hate and lies and their renewed connection with one another is jeopardized.

David Litwack, the author, delivers an exciting book with many poignant moments in which the listener cannot help but delve into their own beliefs and tolerances. Weaving a powerful story, Litwack challenges you to consider what is truth supported through faith, and what is a lie supported out of fear and ignorance. His tool for telling this story is a nine-year-old girl who mesmerizes with her questions and innocence. Litwack creates characters that are well defined and have a depth that enriches the story. Each plot twist is well executed and leaves the listener wanting more.

The narrator, Sarah Zimmerman gives a strong performance. The voices are unique for each character making the story even easier to follow. Her tone sets the stage, and she delivers inflections that are appropriate to the story. Her cadence was smooth and rhythmic accordingly.

Overall, this is one of those rare books that is both entertaining and thought-provoking.
