TEACH ME HOW TO DIE
A Novella

Eye Opening, Poignant!

This is a story of six people seeking to write the perfect suicide note. A note that tells their story accurately and with emotion, an explanation of why they chose to die. Professor Mirrormord holds a class that specializes in writing such notes. Hear their stories, learn the choices they make, and why.

The author, Lisa Monde, reveals through six different characters the thought process of choosing to step permanently away, and how they often struggle with leaving behind their legacy or justification of why. Watching the journey of these characters as well as that of the professor is riveting and revealing. It is surprising how the act of writing a suicide note or not being able to can be so impactful. Their struggle with being “seen” and “known” is realistic as is their dialogue and reactions to one another. Understanding their perception of themselves and life is both powerful and poignant.

The narrator, Samuel Shurtleff delivers a steady performance reflective of each character’s personality with the proper intonation and delivery. He speaks clearly and with a warm, strong voice. The singing was not great, but then again, I rarely enjoy singing or other sound effects within an audiobook. This book has both.

Overall, this is a poignant story and one that can be heard in one sitting. It does explain contributing factors to suicide but most importantly it provides some peace.
