SWORD OF A THOUSAND SUNS

Exciting, Thrill a Minute!

Always on the search for new energy sources and drawing upon failed experiments, CERN is seeking the ultimate power which could in reality turn out to be the destroyer of worlds. Their eagerness to harness this great new powerful energy source cost the lives of the top-tier prominent Physicists and nearly nuclear explosions destroying mountains and cities. It is up to a small handful of physicists that remain to solve the mystery and harness the power before their lives are lost as well. Mix in some three-letter organizations and spiritual zealots and you have one complex thriller!

The author, Dr. Norman P. Johnson weaves a very complex story around physics and the work of physicists. The thriller piece comes off perfectly as it is an edge-of-your-chair mystery thriller that leaves one wondering just how far-fetched or close to the truth this story actually could be in reality. The characters are dynamic and well-developed leaving the listener to either really like them or detest them. There are several themes that run throughout this story including power struggles between people and organizations, and religious thought vs non-religious, but there is also the personal relationships between families and friends. The science research was well-written allowing those that are not science-minded to understand. Interesting take, although I am curious as to where these characters will go as there promises to be more to come.

The narrator, Steven Fehr was very good! I was impressed with his ability to pronounce some of the scientific words and theories accurately, smoothly, and easily. Switching voices is one thing but to switch heavy accents and speak in Russian is complex and he executes this well. Fehr further enhanced the story with his smooth delivery and steady cadence.

Overall, this is a very good book. In the beginning, I felt bogged down by the scientific terminology, but quickly overcame it as the author made it understandable. Lots of action, intrigue, and adventure! A definite must-listen!
