Tragically Heartwarming!

A dying man confesses his teenage misunderstood adventures, taking the listener back to the nineteen-forties Canadian countryside for a front-row seat. Moki is a tale of the loss of innocence during desperate times, love born through shared trials, and the lengths family will go to. Thrust into a new and vastly different culture, fourteen-year-old Hank must find his way and make hard decisions in this coming-of-age story, in the midst of gypsy mysticism and threat.

The author, Mark Behrend, delivers a delightful story full of believable characters, each struggling with their own inner demons as they strive for both their individual and common goals. Secrets abound, expertly revealed to the listener, yet masterfully hidden from the players as the plot unfolds. Mr. Behrend opens our eyes to the world of a growing gypsy family on the run and breaking down. He presents twists and unexpected choices as the characters navigate their world.

Mr. Behrend also narrated the book and did an excellent job of giving the characters unique voices. He captured their personalities perfectly. His pauses and different cadences, dependent upon the situation, caught the emotional nuances, further enhancing the enjoyment of this audiobook and tale. He speaks clearly and in an engaging manner.
