Magic, Excitement, and Life Lessons!

Sabine Wolfensberger is a ten-year-old girl who was just accepted into Onaxx Academy for Mages. Although, her excitement was somewhat stymied when the bullying began not only from the mean girls who are her classmates but from a teacher as well. As a shapeshifter and not a magic-bearing mage, her abilities did not match everyone else’s. Sabine is in for a very long year!

The author, Elizabeth R. Jensen, creates a magical world with the same issues of bullying and shaming many experiences daily. The true-to-life situations bring the listener deeper into the story as they have either experienced it or witnessed it firsthand. I enjoyed the character development and the mystery surrounding the grandfather. I also thought the emotional response to the bullying was handled very well. The storyline flowed smoothly with a plot twist or two to make the story more exciting.

The narrator, Hallie Ricardo provided a wonderful listen. She captured the personality of each character well with subtle intonations and pauses. I thought she spoke clearly and with the energy and enthusiasm needed to reflect the situations and personalities.

This is an audiobook that is geared more towards young adults and those that work with them as the storyline content was insightful and relevant.
