Small Town Crime Mystery!

The snowstorms in Canada can stop everything, except murder. RCMP Sergeant Windflower is faced with a missing girl, a huge snowstorm, and a homicide all while waiting for the birth of their first child. Sergeant Windflower and his team are tracking this young girl down following leads that take them through several towns and deserted areas. While the snow doesn’t stop the murderer, it doesn’t stop the RMCPs either!

The author, Mike Martin creates a small town with close community ties and feelings that only those from small towns will understand. Martin deliberately and subtly reminds us that small towns are cozy, slow-moving, and filled with caring folks and that nothing and no one slips by unnoticed! The characters are detailed and fully developed with many small-town features. The plot flows smoothly with a couple of plot twists that prove unexpected.

The narrator, Francis G. Kearney does a fantastic job of further enhancing the story with his unique voice. He projects the personality of each character through his cadence and careful pitch. He speaks clearly and consistently. He juggled the balance of the main character, Sergeant Windflower from loving husband to police officer very well.

I honestly did not realize this was book 6 in the series! The author does not rely on the listener knowing about his past books and the history of characters to engage the listener and tell his story. The main characters are so well developed that they flow naturally through his writing. I found the small-town police and characters to be rich and entertaining, as well as challenging the stereotypical beliefs that small-town folks are somehow less experienced. I enjoyed this book and hope to hear others by Martin and performed by Kearney!
